Otterbox Case Packaging Confirms iPhone 18 Pro Retains iPhone 17 Pro Dimensions

Retail case packaging verifies 100% cross-generational case compatibility for upcoming Apple flagship

Mark Gurman published images of official Otterbox protective cases already available for retail purchase, revealing that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max share identical physical dimensions with the iPhone 17 Pro generation.

The retail packaging for the new Otterbox cases explicitly indicates compatibility for both the unreleased iPhone 18 Pro and the current iPhone 17 Pro on a single box, confirming direct cross-generational accessory support ahead of Apple’s official launch.

Apparently, the design of the iPhone 18 Pro will be identical to that of the iPhone 17 Pro. And the same could happen with the Pro Max model. Otterbox makes it clear on the box of the cases that these are compatible with the upcoming model, but also with the previous one. What can we clearly conclude? There is not much room for doubt: both devices share dimensions and design.

Otterbox is a brand that takes considerable care with its accessories for Apple, so a minimal change, even of a few tenths, would have caused the new cases to no longer be compatible with the previous model. That this is not the case only demonstrates that Apple could opt for exactly the same chassis on the iPhone 18 Pro.

While physical dimensions and chassis contours remain identical across generations, supply chain leaks indicate Apple plans to differentiate the iPhone 18 Pro series visually through new color options, retaining only the silver finish from the prior palette.

Accessory manufacturers rely on finalized computer-aided design (CAD) dimensions provided months prior to official device announcements. Cutout alignments for physical features—including the rear camera module, USB-C port, and side controls—require manufacturing tolerances within fractions of a millimeter to ensure functional compatibility.

According to Bloomberg reporting, the exact alignment of the physical enclosure allows early buyers and current iPhone 17 Pro owners to use existing protective cases on the new hardware without hardware modification.
