Polestar Targets Utility Market with 2026 Launch of South Korean-Built Polestar 4 SUV
New utility variant to be manufactured in South Korea with 544 hp.
Polestar has confirmed a September 2, 2026, sales launch for the Polestar 4 SUV, a model designed to bridge the gap between the brand’s avant-garde design language and the practical demands of the global premium vehicle market.
The new variant serves as a functional evolution of the existing Polestar 4 coupé. While the company has released only a minimalist logo teaser, the SUV version is expected to retain the performance-oriented 400V architecture while offering enhanced cargo capacity and daily usability.
Manufacturing for the Polestar 4 SUV will take place in Busan, South Korea. This production site is strategically significant as the International Energy Agency notes a shifting landscape in global EV supply chains, with manufacturers increasingly diversifying production bases to mitigate geopolitical trade pressures.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar’s Chief Executive Officer, stated that the decision to expand the lineup follows rapid customer adoption of the Polestar 4. According to Lohscheller, the market is demonstrating a clear appetite for vehicles that do not force a compromise between aesthetic distinction and functional flexibility.
Technical specifications for the SUV mirror the high-performance benchmarks of its coupé predecessor. The rear-motor configuration is projected to deliver a range of up to 630 kilometers under the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) standards. For consumers prioritizing power, the dual-motor variant will produce 544 horsepower.
Engineers have also implemented a specific recalibration of the chassis for both the SUV and the latest coupé iterations. These adjustments are intended to sharpen driving dynamics, ensuring that the added utility of the SUV body style does not dilute the brand’s signature handling characteristics.
The expansion comes as Polestar manages a rapidly diversifying portfolio. The company currently operates in 31 markets with a lineup that includes the Polestar 2, 3, 4, and 5. Future roadmaps include the Polestar 6 roadster and a compact SUV designated as the Polestar 7.
