Mohamed Salah Completes Trabzonspor Move on Two-Year Deal After Leaving Liverpool

Trabzonspor has completed the signing of Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah on a two-year contract following his departure from Liverpool, the Turkish Super Lig club confirmed on Thursday.

The 34-year-old arrived in Trabzon on Wednesday to finalize the deal after landing in Istanbul, where he was greeted by supporters while wearing the club’s jersey. Trabzonspor will officially present Salah later on Thursday evening at Papara Park.

The move comes after Salah terminated his contract at Liverpool a year early at the end of last season, ending a nine-year tenure at Anfield that established him as one of the most prolific goalscorers in Premier League history.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Super Lig in the 2025/26 campaign, five points behind Fenerbahce and eight adrift of champions Galatasaray. Having won the Turkish Cup, the club qualified for the UEFA Europa League play-offs and is positioning Salah to lead its push for a first domestic league title since the 2021-22 season.

The forward’s future had been subject to months of widespread speculation, with Besiktas and several Saudi Pro League clubs closely linked to his signature. Addressing the transfer rumors in July, Salah’s lawyer and advisor, Ramy Abbas Issa, stated on social media that his client had purposefully avoided holding negotiations “just for the sake of noise.”

Salah leaves Liverpool ranked third on the club’s all-time goalscoring list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt, having registered 257 goals and 120 assists in 442 appearances. He was the Premier League’s top scorer for a fourth time during the 2024/25 season, leading Liverpool to the title in their first year under head coach Arne Slot before a challenging title defense led to friction and an early exit despite having signed a contract extension through 2027 in April 2025.

During his time at Anfield, where a 2022 renewal made him the highest-paid player in Liverpool history—with total income exceeding £1 million a week according to a 2023 Harvard Business School study cited by Abbas Issa—Salah won the Champions League, Premier League, and every major domestic trophy.

On the international stage, Salah capped his summer by leading Egypt to their first-ever victory at a FIFA World Cup during the 2026 tournament before a round-of-16 defeat to holders Argentina.

Trabzonspor will begin their 2026/27 Super Lig campaign on August 15 against Kasimpasa, followed by the first leg of their Europa League play-off match at home on August 20.
