The revised package comprises a guaranteed €80 million (£68.3 million) fee alongside €5 million (£4.2 million) in performance-related add-ons. The North London club escalated their approach after Newcastle turned down an earlier offer of €75 million (£64 million). According to Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte, personal terms between Arsenal and the Brazil international have already been settled, shifting the focus entirely onto club-to-club negotiations.
Arsenal’s move for Guimarães comes amid a busy transfer period at the Emirates Stadium. The club recently finalized a permanent deal for defender Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen and recruited goalkeeper Illan Meslier to bolster competition. Having missed out on Morgan Rogers—who completed a £117 million transfer to Chelsea from Aston Villa—Arteta’s recruiting team has recalibrated its priorities toward securing a central midfielder capable of dictating tempo and providing press resistance in top-level encounters.
For Newcastle United, the potential departure of their club captain represents a pivotal juncture in their transfer strategy. The Tyneside club has already accumulated significant capital through high-profile departures this summer, including winger Anthony Gordon and midfielder Sandro Tonali. If a transaction for Guimarães materializes at the current valuation, Newcastle’s gross player sales for the window would approach £250 million, providing significant accounting flexibility under the Premier League‘s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
