X Head of Product Nikita Bier Steps Down After One Year

Nikita Bier was the face of some of the platform's biggest changes.

Nikita Bier has stepped down as head of product at X after just over a year in the role, marking a major management shift at the social media platform as it pushes to overhaul creator payouts and platform integrity.

Bier confirmed his departure on X, stating that he will transition into an advisory role at the company rather than maintaining executive management responsibilities.

“Running this app is a 24/7 job and it’s now time for me to take a breather,” Bier wrote, adding that he decided to “pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.” He did not specify his future operational plans beyond advisory work.

During his year-long tenure, Bier became one of the platform’s most prominent public-facing leaders, steering high-profile changes to user verification and creator incentives. Under his product leadership, X introduced the “about this account” feature, which exposed account origin locations and unmasked several prominent profiles that had operated as U.S.-based political influencers from overseas.

Bier also spearheaded a restructuring of X’s creator monetization framework, introducing measures designed to reduce engagement bait and penalize accounts that monetize unauthorized or plagiarized content.

X has not named a direct successor for the product head role. Benji Taylor, who assumed the role of head of design earlier this year, stated he remains focused on design leadership while helping continue the trajectory of Bier’s product work.

Before joining X, Bier established himself in tech startup acquisitions. He sold the anonymous polling application tbh to Facebook in 2017 and later sold the anonymous compliment platform Gas to Discord in 2023, though both applications were eventually shut down by their respective buyers.
