HBO Max secured a commanding position for the 78th annual Emmy Awards, led by the medical drama The Pitt and the record-breaking comedy Hacks. The Television Academy announced Wednesday that The Pitt earned 25 nominations in the drama category, while Hacks followed closely with 24 nominations—the highest number ever recorded for a single program in the comedy category.

This creative surge occurs as Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., the parent company of HBO Max, navigates a major corporate transition. The media giant is currently in the process of being acquired by Paramount Skydance Corp, a move that could reshape the landscape of premium streaming.

The Television Academy, which oversees the honors, has increasingly seen streaming platforms displace traditional broadcast networks in major categories over the last decade. Apple TV also maintained a strong presence this year, with the horror-comedy Widow’s Bay securing 19 nominations and the dystopian drama Pluribus also placing among the top contenders.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to air Sept. 14 on NBC and the Peacock streaming service. The event will be hosted at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, marking a significant broadcast partnership for Comcast Corp.
