Freelander 8 Interior Revealed: JLR and Chery’s Joint Venture Showcases a High-Tech, Screen-Heavy Cabin
The upcoming electrified SUV features a massive 46.3-inch panoramic display and a premium, minimalist design.

The resurrection of the historic Freelander nameplate is taking a decidedly futuristic turn. Following its initial preview in April, the upcoming Freelander 8 has taken another step closer to production with the official release of its interior design. Developed under the newly formed Freelander International banner—a joint venture between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR)—this boxy SUV is positioning itself as a tech-forward contender in the premium electrified segment. Having recently made a high-profile appearance at the Abu Dhabi Investment Forum ahead of its planned launch in the United Arab Emirates, the Freelander 8 is now giving us a clear look at where its passengers will spend their time.
The newly released cabin images reveal a highly digitized, minimalist environment that heavily prioritizes screen real estate. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a massive, pillar-to-pillar panoramic screen positioned at the base of the windshield. According to reports out of China, this sweeping display measures an impressive 46.3 inches, spanning almost the entire width of the cabin.
This ultra-wide display is intelligently segmented to serve different functions. The section directly ahead of the driver acts as a digital instrument cluster, displaying critical data such as vehicle speed and gear selection. The middle portion handles general vehicle status and telemetry, while the passenger-side segment defaults to a large, elegant clock but can also be utilized to stream entertainment content.
Supplementing this massive dashboard display is a secondary, standalone infotainment touchscreen mounted lower on the center stack. Chinese reports indicate this central hub measures 15.6 inches, serving as the primary interface for vehicle settings and media. Directly below this screen sits a row of physical buttons finished in a premium metallic trim, offering tactile control for essential functions. The wide center console features a rich wood veneer and houses what appears to be a dual wireless smartphone charging pad.
Beyond the screens, the cabin is designed to deliver a premium, sensory-rich experience. The driver grips a thick-rimmed steering wheel, complemented by minimalist door handles and subtle metallic accents throughout the cabin. A driver monitoring system is also visible, ensuring safety and attentiveness. To elevate the cabin’s atmosphere, the Freelander 8 features a customizable ambient lighting system with 256 colors, alongside an integrated fragrance diffuser to maintain a pleasant cabin aroma.
Comfort is a clear priority, particularly for the front passenger. The vehicle features a highly specialized front passenger seat dubbed the “LADY” seat. This seat is engineered with an extensive range of power adjustments, allowing the occupant to find an exceptionally relaxed, lounge-like position for long journeys.
Underpinning this high-tech cabin is a rugged, boxy exterior design that honors the utilitarian heritage of the Freelander name while adapting it for a modern audience. Under the hood, unofficial reports suggest the Freelander 8 will utilize an advanced range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain. This system reportedly pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine—acting solely as a generator—with a substantial 60.3-kWh battery pack. This setup is projected to deliver a generous electric-only driving range of up to 221 kilometers (approximately 137 miles) before the gasoline generator needs to kick in, offering an ideal blend of zero-emission daily commuting and long-distance flexibility.
The Freelander 8 is scheduled to make its official market debut later in 2026. By combining JLR’s premium design sensibilities with Chery’s advanced EV platforms and manufacturing scale, Freelander International is aiming to carve out a unique niche in the rapidly evolving global SUV market.
