Chelsea Advance Negotiations for Rayo Vallecano Defender Pep Chavarria
The Premier League club is preparing an improved proposal of up to €25 million for the Spanish left-back.

Chelsea are accelerating negotiations with La Liga side Rayo Vallecano to secure a transfer for Spanish left-back Pep Chavarria, according to a report from Spanish sports newspaper Marca.
The Premier League club is preparing an improved proposal that could reach €25 million once fixed payments and performance-related bonuses are factored into the deal. This follows a previously rejected offer of less than €15 million, which was turned down by the Madrid-based club approximately one week ago.
Personal terms are already understood to have been agreed between Chelsea and the 27-year-old defender. In an effort to facilitate the transfer to Stamford Bridge, Chavarria has reportedly reduced his salary demands, signaling his desire to complete the move.
Negotiation Hurdles and Structure
While Chelsea’s upcoming bid is expected to reach €25 million with add-ons, Rayo Vallecano may hold out for that figure as a guaranteed base fee. Rayo Vallecano president Raúl Martín Presa is personally managing the club-to-club discussions, making his approval critical to finalizing any agreement.
The Spanish left-back is reportedly viewed as a highly adaptable tactical option. According to Marca, Chavarria is an “express request” of Xabi Alonso, who values the player’s ability to operate effectively in multiple positions across the pitch.
Background
Pep Chavarria, born in Figueres, Spain, established his professional career in the lower divisions of Spanish football with UE Olot before moving to Real Zaragoza in 2020. His performances in the Segunda División earned him a transfer to top-flight side Rayo Vallecano in 2022.
Rayo Vallecano, founded in 1924, is based in the working-class neighborhood of Vallecas in Madrid. The club has a long-standing reputation for developing resilient defensive players and competing effectively in La Liga despite operating on a significantly smaller budget than Spain’s traditional heavyweights.
Chelsea, competing in the English Premier League, have actively rebuilt their squad over recent transfer windows, focusing heavily on acquiring versatile defensive profiles to suit fluid tactical systems.
