Bending Spoons to Acquire Airtable in $1.285 Billion All-Cash Deal
Italian tech group deploys post-IPO capital for $1.285 billion takeover of cloud software maker.
Bending Spoons SpA has agreed to acquire database and workflow software maker Airtable Inc. in an all-cash deal valuing the target at $1.285 billion, marking the Italian app developer’s first takeover since listing on the Nasdaq and underscoring a sharp reset in cloud software valuations.
The transaction implies an equity value of approximately $2.25 billion after accounting for Airtable’s cash reserves, the companies announced Tuesday. Subject to regulatory approval, the deal is expected to close by the end of the year, transferring control of a platform used by more than 500,000 organizations—including 80% of the Fortune 100—to the Milan-based publisher.
The purchase price represents a steep markdown from Airtable’s peak valuation. Founded in 2013, the San Francisco-based startup raised more than $1.4 billion in venture funding and was valued at over $11 billion during the 2021 technology boom. Earlier this year, Airtable shares traded on secondary markets at roughly $4 billion, making Tuesday’s deal value less than a quarter of its recent private market pricing and about a fifth of its high.
Airtable’s underlying revenue momentum has continued despite the market correction. annual recurring revenue grew more than 20% year-over-year to approximately $480 million as of June 2026.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Airtable into Bending Spoons. Airtable is a pioneering brand reshaping how teams organize data and manage critical workflows,” said Bending Spoons CEO and co-founder Luca Ferrari in a company release. He also tied the price to Airtable’s growth: “The value being delivered is reflected in annual recurring revenue growing over 20% YoY to approximately $480 million as of June 2026, and joining forces with Bending Spoons will accelerate innovation even further.”
The acquisition expands a Bending Spoons portfolio that encompasses more than 50 buyouts, including AOL, Eventbrite, Evernote, Vimeo, and WeTransfer. While Bending Spoons typically targets well-known digital assets to cut costs and revamp pricing models, Airtable differs from prior acquisitions because its revenue was still expanding at the time of the deal. Bending Spoons co-founder Matteo Danieli told TechCrunch the company views the current environment for software valuations as favorable for a buyer, saying Bending Spoons had largely avoided the reset itself while others deployed capital into it.
The transaction represents the first deployment of capital by Bending Spoons since going public. The company filed its F-1 in June, revealing that 2025 revenue grew 95% year-over-year to $1.31 billion—more than tripling since 2023—while operating profit more than doubled to $278 million. In July, Bending Spoons priced its Nasdaq listing at $29 a share, above its marketed range, valuing the business at roughly $18.4 billion. Shares closed Monday at $36.22. First-quarter revenue for 2026 grew to $601.3 million as the company swung to a $27.5 million net profit from a $112.2 million net loss a year earlier.
The takeover arrives amidst broad capital markets activity, where private valuations have reached historic highs for select technology leaders. SpaceX is trading around $1.4 trillion, while Anthropic recently raised capital at a $965 billion post-money valuation. Public listings have extended beyond software, highlighted by South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix raising about $26.5 billion after pricing its U.S. depositary receipts at $149 each.
