The 2027 Ram 1500 TRX SRT marks the return of the supercharged V8 to the brand’s half-ton lineup, re-establishing a performance benchmark that briefly seemed destined for the history books.

The decision to reintegrate the 6.2-liter V8 follows a period where the company’s new Hurricane straight-six engine was positioned as the primary power plant. However, Ram has signaled that for its flagship off-roader, the “sound and fury” of eight cylinders remains essential. This latest iteration is the first to officially carry the SRT badge, a designation historically reserved for the highest tier of street-legal performance within the Stellantis portfolio.

According to specifications released by Ram, the heart of the vehicle is a Hellcat motor paired with a 2.4-liter supercharger. The combination produces 777 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. This output allows the truck to reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, a figure that Ram claims is best-in-class. The vehicle’s top speed is electronically governed at 118 mph, a limitation dictated by the speed ratings of its heavy-duty off-road rubber.

While the power figures dominate the headlines, the truck’s architecture is engineered for high-speed desert transitions. The suspension utilizes Bilstein Blackhawk e2 adaptive shocks, providing 13.0 inches of axle travel in the front and 14.0 inches in the rear. These components are designed to balance on-road comfort with the durability required for a purpose-built dirt race track. To manage the thermal and mechanical stress of such environments, the truck features progressive jounce control and a five-link rear setup.

This aggressive mechanical profile comes at a time when the Environmental Protection Agency continues to tighten greenhouse gas standards for light-duty trucks. By maintaining a high-output V8, Ram is catering to a niche but highly profitable segment of the market that prioritizes raw performance over fuel efficiency.

Strategically, the 2027 TRX SRT is positioned as a direct challenge to the Ford Raptor R. Despite the performance gains, Ram has set a starting price of $102,790. This MSRP undercuts its primary rival by approximately $12,000, representing a deliberate attempt to dominate the “super-truck” category through a superior power-to-dollar ratio.

Inside, the cabin reflects the brand’s recent move toward premium materials and high-density technology. The driver interface includes a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, a 14.5-inch center screen running Uconnect 5, and a 10.0-inch HUD. Drivers can toggle through various settings, including a specialized Baja mode, which optimizes the steering heft and suspension damping for off-road maneuvers.

Visually, the truck maintains its wide-body stance, though new options like the Bloodshot Night edition and the Serrano Green paint offer further customization.
