New Grand Theft Auto VI Leak Discloses Gameplay Footage and Full World Map
Anonymous leaker bypasses Take-Two copyright controls to share clips detailing mechanics, map layout, and a six-star wanted meter
An anonymous leaker has released new gameplay clips and what is claimed to be the entire world map of Grand Theft Auto VI, marking the most significant unauthorized disclosure for developer Rockstar Games since 2022. The leak emerged from an X account operating under the name CyberLeek, which posted the material to promote a cryptocurrency token and protest a rumored industry shift toward digital-only video game releases.
The unauthorized release occurred less than 100 days before the game’s scheduled launch and just a week before Rockstar’s first officially scheduled gameplay demonstration. Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, initiated rapid copyright takedowns across social media platforms, though copies of the media continue to circulate online.
One clip shows Jason, one of the game’s two playable characters, playing a basketball minigame at a house seen in prior trailers. Movement in GTA 6 appears to resemble Red Dead Redemption 2, and a “Focus” stat that rises with each made shot suggests the game includes RPG-like mechanics.
Another video shows Jason driving before colliding with a truck and getting into a fight with its driver. The clip shows Jason using a wrench as a melee weapon, a stamina meter, and a wanted meter that goes up to six stars instead of GTA 5’s five. A separate AI-generated video showing the second playable character, Lucia, is also circulating.
In addition to the gameplay clips, CyberLeek published a layout of the Grand Theft Auto VI world map. The map depicts a large island containing a central metropolitan city surrounded by smaller towns and open wilderness areas, structured similarly to the map of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V. The leaker stated that further material would be released imminently, though their activity has been temporarily rate-limited by the platform.
This incident represents the largest security breach for Take-Two and Rockstar since September 2022, when a hacker leaked over 90 videos and screenshots of early development footage. That previous breach was orchestrated by Arion Kurtaj, a member of the Lapsus$ hacking group who was later sentenced in December 2023 to an indefinite hospital order under the UK Mental Health Act, according to a report by the BBC. Prominent industry insider NateTheHate stated that the newly leaked CyberLeek footage appears to be over a year old, likely dating from 2024, representing a more recent build than the 2022 leak.
The official rollout of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay is scheduled to debut on Netflix on August 27, six hours prior to its release on YouTube. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles on November 19, with the Standard Edition priced at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100. CyberLeek claimed the leak was motivated in part by opposition to Rockstar’s digital distribution strategy and Sony’s projected timeline to phase out physical disc manufacturing for PlayStation consoles after January 2028.
