BYD’s Denza Challenges European Supercar Elite with 1,582-HP Debut at Goodwood
Chinese automaker BYD unveils high-performance Z Coupe and Racing variants.

BYD’s premium subsidiary, Denza, has utilized the historic grounds of the Goodwood Festival of Speed to signal its intent for the European high-performance market. The global debut of the Denza Z Coupe and the track-focused Denza Z Racing marks a significant escalation in the technical rivalry between Chinese EV manufacturers and established European marques.
The flagship models utilize the e³ platform, known as Yi Sanfang, which integrates a three-motor configuration delivering a combined 1,582 hp. According to official specifications, the Denza Z Track Edition can achieve a 0-100 km/h sprint in 1.96 seconds, reaching a certified top speed of 350 km/h. This performance profile is supported by a steer-by-wire system developed by the Fudi chassis division, which replaces traditional mechanical linkages to allow for more precise torque distribution during high-speed cornering.
The expansion comes as the International Energy Agency notes a rapid acceleration in global electric vehicle adoption, particularly in the high-performance segment where power-to-weight ratios are being redefined by battery technology. Denza’s entry relies on a second-generation Blade battery featuring lithium iron phosphate chemistry and a high-voltage 800V architecture designed for rapid charging cycles.
Denza has confirmed that UK pre-orders for the Denza Z Coupe will open later this year, with pricing starting at £142,900. This move follows a strong performance in its domestic market, where Denza reported 15,620 deliveries in May 2026, representing a 46.8% month-on-month growth and securing a 1.0% share of the local passenger car market.
Engineering choices for the Z series prioritize thermal management and structural rigidity. The vehicles are equipped with standard carbon-ceramic brake discs and a DiSus-M magnetic suspension system capable of adjusting damping rates within milliseconds. While the standard Denza Z Coupe features adaptive air springs, the Track Edition opts for dedicated mechanical springs to enhance circuit performance. The digital chassis management also includes an over-boost mode, which provides a 30% torque increase for sustained 20-second bursts.
