Bose Refreshes Flagship QuietComfort Headphones With Ultra Features for $359

Bose has unveiled its first update to the base QuietComfort over-ear headphones in three years, introducing spatial audio technology and upgraded noise cancellation to the $359 flagship device.

Pre-orders for the refreshed headphones open on Aug. 8, with initial shipments scheduled for Aug. 13. The release marks a strategic effort by the audio manufacturer to integrate features previously reserved for its higher-end QuietComfort Ultra line into its mid-tier offering, directly competing in a crowded premium wireless market against rivals like Sony and Apple.

Central to the hardware update is Bose’s proprietary Immersive Audio feature, which uses embedded motion sensors to deliver a 3D acoustic presentation. The new model also adds Cinema Mode, an audio processing preset designed to enhance dialogue clarity when watching television and movies.

Connectivity has been updated with two-way USB-C audio support, enabling wired lossless audio playback at up to 24-bit/48kHz resolution. The interface also supports active audio listening while the battery recharges and enhances voice signal quality during videoconferencing calls.

Noise isolation capabilities have been revised across the board. The upgraded six-microphone active noise cancellation algorithm now actively compensates for seal gaps around the ear cups, specifically aiding users who wear eyeglasses. In Aware Mode, the system adjusts more gradually when encountering sudden acoustic surges.

Ergonomic updates to the chassis include an overhauled headband structure, redesigned oval ear cups, and denser plush padding. The hardware will be sold in standard black and white finishes alongside limited-edition color options.
