Netflix Secures Six-Hour Exclusive Premiere for ‘Grand Theft Auto VI’ Extended Look
Streaming giant challenges YouTube dominance with temporary exclusivity window for game preview.
Netflix Inc. has secured exclusive initial streaming rights for an extended preview of Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, grabbing a six-hour premiere window ahead of YouTube on August 27.
The showcase feature, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, will debut on Netflix at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The content will subsequently launch on Rockstar’s official YouTube channel at 9:00 p.m. ET, opening access to non-subscribers and broader global audiences.
The agreement underscores an aggressive effort by Netflix to leverage major entertainment milestones to boost user engagement on its platform. Alphabet Inc.’s YouTube has historically served as the primary global hub for video game publishers debuting promotional trailers and gameplay teasers.
Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive Software Inc., is positioning Grand Theft Auto VI for release this November in what analysts project will be the year’s largest media launch. The initial announcement trailer for the title broke digital platform records, generating over 90 million views on YouTube within its first 24 hours.
