Dreyer’s Recalls Outshine Fruit Bars Nationwide Over Potential Glass Contamination
FDA alert targets select 6-count boxes and 24-count variety packs following consumer reports
Federal safety officials and food manufacturers are monitoring major nationwide product recalls affecting consumer packaged goods across the United States.
Customer discoveries of glass fragments inside packaged frozen treats have prompted a nationwide recall of multiple Outshine fruit bar varieties, according to federal regulatory disclosures.
The voluntary action by Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream applies to designated production lots of six-count cartons as well as 24-count Variety Packs, the Food and Drug Administration detailed in an Aug. 18 alert.
FDA documentation indicates the manufacturer initiated the marketplace withdrawal after receiving direct reports from buyers who identified glass pieces embedded within the fruit bars.
“Dreyer’s is taking this action out of an abundance of caution following consumer reports of glass found in the product,” statement from the company read.
Physical contaminant incidents involving glass contamination or hard foreign objects are classified among the most serious hazards in commercial food production. Manufacturing plants typically rely on inline optical sensors and high-density X-ray inspection equipment to detect foreign materials before packaging, though equipment defects or packaging failures can occasionally compromise finished product lots.
The announcement follows a series of recent retail recalls across different food categories, including a recent recall of frozen pet food linked to bacterial contamination and animal illnesses.
Dreyer’s confirmed that no medical incidents, injuries, or adverse health effects connected to the affected inventory have been reported to date.
Shipments of the subject fruit bars were delivered to retail outlets and grocery chains throughout the entire country.
Household buyers are advised to examine the Universal Product Code (UPC), manufacturing batch identifiers, and best-before date stamped on their packages to confirm whether their items fall under the recall scope.
Food safety monitoring has also sparked other nationwide actions this month, such as a major soup recall linked to potential microbiological hazards in commercial canned goods.

The recalled products include certain batches of:
- Outshine Strawberry 6-count Fruit Bars
- Outshine Watermelon 6-count Fruit Bars
- Outshine Grape 6-count Fruit Bars
- Outshine Tangerine 6-count Fruit Bars
- Outshine Black Cherry 6-count Fruit Bars
- Outshine 24-count Variety Pack Fruit Bars
Detailed identification data, including specific lot strings, individual UPC digits, and matching best-before date codes, are maintained on the FDA’s official recall enforcement database.
The action highlights ongoing regulatory enforcement in the frozen dessert sector, which recently saw major ice cream novelties recalled due to mislabeling and undeclared ingredient disclosures.

Dreyer’s emphasized that the recall is strictly limited to the specified batch codes and does not impact any other items or flavors within the broader Outshine product portfolio.
Regulatory tracking and food health updates remain active through federal oversight databases and consumer protection bulletin networks.
Consumers who possess any of the recalled products are directed to dispose of the product immediately or present it at the point of purchase to obtain a complete monetary refund.
Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream has maintained direct consumer support channels to assist purchasers seeking product reimbursement and batch code verification.
