Four second-half goals from Leeds United shattered Liverpool’s undefeated pre-season run, handing Andoni Iraola his first loss in charge as Daniel Farke’s side stormed back from two goals down to win 4-2 in Chicago.
Liverpool led 2-0 at the break following a dominant opening period driven by goals from Luke Chambers and summer arrival Florian Wirtz.
Chambers capitalized early, bundling home in the seventh minute after Milos Kerkez delivered a corner that Leeds failed to clear. Leeds had opportunities to equalize through Lukas Nmecha—who forced a save from Giorgi Mamardashvili before shooting wide on a counter—but Liverpool maintained control and extended their lead shortly before half-time.
Jeremie Frimpong unlocked the defense in the 40th minute, sweeping down the right flank and finding Wirtz, who neatly slotted into the bottom corner past Alex Cairns.
Farke made four tactical substitutions at the break, and the momentum shifted rapidly upon the restart.
Brenden Aaronson reduced the deficit in the 60th minute, finishing neatly inside the penalty box after Ethan Ampadu picked him out in space. Eleven minutes later, Joe Rodon steered Harry Wilson’s floated free-kick across the face of goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to tap home the equalizer.
The collapse was complete by the 73rd minute. Aaronson turned provider, releasing Sean Longstaff, who sent a driven low strike past Mamardashvili to put Leeds ahead.
Liverpool pushed forward in search of a response, but Harvey Elliott saw a close-range attempt blocked before Ryan Gravenberch dragged a shot narrowly wide.
Calvert-Lewin sealed the result five minutes from time, heading in from Sebastiaan Bornauw’s knockdown to complete a dramatic turnaround in Chicago.
