Tottenham Hotspur Join Race for Paris Saint-Germain Starlet Ibrahim Mbaye
The 18-year-old Senegal international is attracting interest from several European giants after a stellar breakthrough season.
Tottenham Hotspur is actively monitoring Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated teenage winger Ibrahim Mbaye, who is reportedly seeking a departure from the French champions this summer.
According to French journalist Santi Aouna, the 18-year-old Senegal international wants to leave the Parc des Princes. Despite having two years remaining on his contract, Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to sanction his sale. Tottenham Hotspur is not alone in its pursuit, as Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Manchester City, alongside Bundesliga outfits Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, are also keeping tabs on the youngster.
Tottenham has emerged as one of the most proactive clubs in the current transfer window. The North London club has already secured defensive reinforcements by signing Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers. They have supplemented these arrivals with significant financial outlays for Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali. Acquiring Ibrahim Mbaye would represent another statement of intent, especially given his estimated market value of £25 million on Transfermarkt.
Mbaye’s rapid ascent began in the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy. In August 2024, at just 16 years and 205 days old, he etched his name into the club’s history books by becoming the youngest player to start a competitive match for the club. He went on to make 24 senior appearances during that breakthrough campaign. Paris Saint-Germain has historically struggled to retain some of its brightest academy prospects, with players like Kingsley Coman and Christopher Nkunku finding elite success elsewhere after departing the French capital early in their careers.
On the international stage, Mbaye’s stock soared after he chose to represent Senegal over France. He played a crucial role in helping the Teranga Lions secure the Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco. His performances earned him a spot in Malick Thiaw’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup.
During the global tournament, Mbaye made history during Senegal’s 3-1 defeat to France. At 18 years and 142 days old, he became the youngest African footballer to score in the competition. Beyond his goalscoring feat, his underlying metrics highlighted his elite potential; he registered an 87.1% pass completion rate, won an average of 6.39 duels, and created 2.90 chances per match.
