Alan Shearer Urges Liverpool to Secure Bournemouth Star Rayan to Solve Attacking Puzzle

In the wake of Mohamed Salah’s high-profile departure, Liverpool must act decisively in the transfer market to rebuild their attacking ranks. Former Premier League striker turned pundit Alan Shearer has strongly urged the Anfield club to launch a bid for AFC Bournemouth’s highly-rated forward Rayan, identifying the young Brazilian as a player with the potential to develop into a world-class talent.

Liverpool’s attacking transition has already seen some movement, with the club securing the signing of Victor Muñoz from Osasuna this summer. Under the current tactical setup, Andoni Iraola currently has Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha alongside Muñoz as options to deploy on the flanks. However, squad depth and adaptability remain pressing concerns. While both Gakpo and Ngumoha are highly comfortable operating on the left side of the attack, the right flank presents a more complex challenge. Although Muñoz and Federico Chiesa can provide cover on the right flank if needed, the Italian international has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since his arrival. Furthermore, Muñoz is still very young and could take time to adapt to the intense physicality of the English top-flight. Consequently, Liverpool are reportedly considering purchasing a new forward before the start of the next season to ensure they remain competitive at the highest level.

Speaking during a recent interview, Alan Shearer emphasized that Liverpool’s difficult campaign last term exposed a need for significant squad reinforcement. According to Shearer, the Reds must make several key acquisitions this summer to turn the situation around, and Rayan represents an ideal target. Shearer noted that Andoni Iraola knows the player very well, and pointed to the forward’s immense ceiling as a primary reason for Liverpool to strike a deal.

Rayan, a physically imposing 6ft 1in tall left-footed right-winger, possesses a highly coveted profile in modern football. He is quick, strong, exceptionally good in the air, and technically sound. His ability to dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, combined with his efficiency in creating opportunities for fellow attackers, makes him a dynamic threat on the wing.

Bournemouth originally secured the young attacker from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama after being deeply impressed by his domestic performances. The Cherries moved quickly to sign him following Antoine Semenyo’s high-profile transfer to Manchester City in January. Since arriving at the Vitality Stadium, Rayan has adapted rapidly, delivering highly promising performances in the Premier League last term. His stellar club form earned him a place in Brazil’s national squad for the World Cup, where he helped his country reach the last-16 stage before they were eliminated by Norway.

Securing his services, however, will require a substantial financial commitment. Having only recently moved to the Vitality Stadium, Rayan is locked into a long-term contract that runs until 2031. As a result, Bournemouth are under no immediate pressure to sell their prized asset during this summer window. Furthermore, his contract contains a massive £130m release clause, which is set to become active next year.

While acquiring the Brazilian would represent a major coup for Liverpool, it remains to be seen whether the Anfield decision-makers will heed Shearer’s advice and launch a formal pursuit of the Bournemouth star.
