Chelsea Enter Race for Bayer Leverkusen Sensation Kerim Alajbegovic

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s highly-rated young forward Kerim Alajbegovic, potentially hijacking a move from Serie A side Atalanta.

According to Bosnian outlet Faktor, the West London club has expressed strong interest in securing the 18-year-old left winger during the current summer transfer window. Atalanta had previously been leading the chase for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, but negotiations have reportedly been put on hold following Chelsea’s late intervention.

A Rising Star on the World Stage

Alajbegovic’s profile rose dramatically during the recent FIFA World Cup, where he delivered standout performances for Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a 3-1 group stage victory over Qatar, he scored a spectacular opening goal from distance at just 18 years and 276 days old.

The strike made him the youngest player to score from outside the penalty box at a World Cup since France’s Kylian Mbappe did so at the 2018 tournament in Russia at 19 years and 207 days. Furthermore, the goal placed Alajbegovic eighth on the all-time list of youngest World Cup goalscorers, ahead of global icons Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal.

Leverkusen Development and Transfer Market Value

The young attacker’s club career has been equally fast-tracked. After progressing through the academy ranks at Bayer Leverkusen, Alajbegovic joined Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg last summer to secure regular first-team minutes. However, his rapid development prompted Leverkusen to trigger his buyback clause in March, bringing him back to Germany.

Under the guidance of manager Xabi Alonso, Alajbegovic was integrated into the senior squad, making several matchday appearances. Throughout the Bundesliga campaign, he featured 28 times, registering nine goals and three assists. He also made seven appearances in the UEFA Europa League, scoring twice. Consequently, his market value is expected to comfortably eclipse his current £18m Transfermarkt valuation.

Chelsea’s Summer Rebuild

Chelsea’s transfer activity has intensified ahead of the new season. While much of the media focus has centered on Enzo Fernandez’s ongoing saga and the departure of defender Marc Cucurella, the Blues have quietly secured key reinforcements.
