Tottenham and Everton Lead Multi-Club Chase for Southampton’s Leo Scienza
The Brazilian playmaker is attracting interest from across Europe after a standout season with Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton have emerged as leading contenders in a widening pursuit of Southampton’s Leo Scienza, according to reports from Spanish outlet AS. The 27-year-old Brazilian, who arrived on the South Coast following a stint with German side FC Heidenheim, has seen his stock rise significantly after a productive debut season in English football.
Scienza’s transition to the Championship proved seamless. He concluded the previous campaign with seven goals and 10 assists in 39 appearances, establishing himself as a pivotal creative force for the Saints. This output has triggered interest not only from the Premier League but also from major outfits across Europe and in his native Brazil.
The race for his signature is becoming increasingly crowded. Beyond the interest from North London and Merseyside, Aston Villa and Leeds United have reportedly deployed scouts to monitor his progress. The pursuit extends to the Bundesliga and Serie A, with Como and Atalanta joined by La Liga’s Real Betis and Real Sociedad in plotting potential moves. Crystal Palace is also credited with interest, while Brazilian giants Flamengo and Palmeiras remain attentive to the playmaker’s situation.
Technically, Scienza is regarded as a versatile asset. Primarily a creative midfielder by trait, he is equally adept on either flank, utilizing his two-footedness to thread passes between the lines. In modern tactical setups, such “inverted” or “hybrid” roles are highly valued for their ability to disrupt low-block defenses. His proficiency in set-piece delivery and a high defensive work rate without possession further enhance his profile as a potential “shrewd acquisition” for top-flight sides.
For Tottenham Hotspur, the interest comes amid a need for depth in the attacking midfield roles. While the club currently relies on James Maddison, the reported absence of Xavi Simons—who is set to remain sidelined for several months due to a serious knee injury—has created a void in creative options. The Dutchman’s injury leaves the North London club looking for reinforcements who can operate in the pockets of space behind the striker.
Everton faces a similar dilemma in their midfield construction. The Toffees currently count Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Carlos Alcaraz as specialist options for the “No. 10” role. However, the Argentinian Alcaraz struggled to find regular game time last term. While Merlin Rohl can also provide cover in this position if needed, he failed to showcase his qualities in the Premier League during the last campaign, leaving the Merseyside club in search of more consistent creative output.
Despite Scienza’s existing deal with Southampton being set to run until 2029, the report suggests the club may not be in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money if they are forced to cash-in. Typically, a long-term contract provides a club with significant leverage, but the pressure of interest from high-profile suitors can often shift the bargaining power.
Having previously played for FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga, Leo Scienza is currently at the prime stage of his career. As the transfer window progresses, the focus remains on whether the North London club or the Merseyside club will eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services and bring his technical flair to their respective squads.
