Xpeng Opens Pre-Orders for the Mona L03, a Tech-Forward SUV Designed to Disrupt the Global EV Market
Xpeng's new Mona L03 SUV pairs Ferrari-penned design with a 1,500 TOPS AI chip and EREV versatility for under $25,000.

Xpeng is rapidly expanding its footprint in the highly competitive electric vehicle landscape, targeting buyers who refuse to compromise on technology or design for a lower price tag. The Chinese automaker has officially opened pre-orders for the highly anticipated Xpeng Mona L03, marking the debut of the very first SUV in the brand’s budget-friendly Mona series. Scheduled for an official market launch on July 16, 2026, the L03 is positioned as a tech-forward disruptor that could soon make waves far beyond its domestic borders.
To give the SUV a distinct visual edge in a crowded segment, Xpeng enlisted a global design team led by Juanma Lopez, the former head of exterior design at Ferrari. The partnership has yielded a highly streamlined, aerodynamic silhouette that minimizes drag while maintaining a commanding road presence. By blending sleek, sports-car-inspired proportions with the practical packaging of a modern crossover, the L03 avoids the generic, bulbous styling that plagues many entry-level utility vehicles.
Under the skin, the L03 serves as a rolling showcase for Xpeng’s latest proprietary silicon. At the heart of the vehicle’s driver-assistance suite is the self-developed Turing AI chip. Delivering an astonishing 1,500 TOPS (Trillions of Operations Per Second) of computing power, this high-performance processor runs Xpeng’s second-generation Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model. This advanced neural network allows the vehicle to perceive, interpret, and react to complex driving environments with human-like decision-making capabilities, representing a massive leap forward for autonomous driving tech in this price bracket.
Inside, the cabin focuses heavily on premium comfort and sensory isolation. Passengers are treated to Zero-Gravity seats equipped with a sophisticated 14-point massage system designed to reduce fatigue on long journeys. To isolate the cabin from the harsh realities of the road, Xpeng employs active Road Noise Cancellation (RNC) technology, which works in tandem with a 256-color ambient lighting system to create a serene, customizable sanctuary.
Ride quality and passenger comfort are further refined by an advanced chassis setup. The L03 features intelligent variable damping shock absorbers (DCC) that continuously adjust to road imperfections, balancing body control with a plush ride. Furthermore, to combat a common complaint in modern electric vehicles—passenger nausea caused by instant torque and aggressive regenerative braking—the L03 features an upgraded Anti-Motion Sickness Mode 2.0, which smooths out longitudinal forces to keep occupants comfortable.
The L03 is offered in six distinct trim levels, giving buyers a choice between a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). The EREV variant is particularly compelling for buyers looking to eliminate range anxiety. It delivers a pure electric range of 315 km under the CLTC cycle, allowing for emission-free daily commuting. For longer road trips, the gasoline-powered range extender kicks in to provide a massive total combined range of 1,330 km, sipping fuel at a highly efficient rate of 5.16 liters per 100 km under the WLTC standard.
Pricing for the Mona L03 is remarkably aggressive. The lineup starts at 143,800 yuan (approximately $21,100 or 77,490 AED) and tops out at 165,800 yuan (around $24,400 or 89,609 AED). This aggressive pricing structure, combined with its high-end feature set, makes the SUV a strong candidate for global expansion, with Xpeng already eyeing key international arenas, including markets in the Middle East.
