Tim Draper Denies $62 Million Bitcoin Transfer as AI Labeling Faces Accuracy Test
Venture capitalist rejects blockchain reports linking him to Coinbase Prime transfer.

Venture capitalist Tim Draper has flatly rejected reports that he moved a significant portion of his cryptocurrency holdings to an exchange, highlighting the persistent friction between blockchain analytics and the privacy of high-profile investors. The denial follows a report from Lookonchain suggesting a wallet “possibly linked” to Draper transferred 1,000 Bitcoin, valued at approximately $62 million, to Coinbase Prime.
“Haven’t touched my BTC,” Draper told Cointelegraph on Friday. The discrepancy centers on data from Arkham, which utilizes an AI-powered entity prediction feature to tag digital wallets. These labels are categorized as lower-confidence attributions, intended to serve as clues rather than definitive proof of ownership.
Draper’s status as a major holder stems from a 2014 U.S. Marshals Service auction, where he acquired nearly 30,000 BTC seized during the shutdown of the Silk Road dark-net market. According to Forbes, Draper paid roughly $18.7 million for the assets—an average of $632 per coin. At current market prices, that initial investment is worth nearly $1.9 billion.
Despite the scrutiny over his movements, Draper remains steadfast in a $250,000 price target for the asset within the next year. It is a forecast he has maintained since 2018, though the timeline has been adjusted multiple times as the market failed to reach that milestone by his earlier predictions of late 2022. Bitcoin reached a recorded peak of $126,080 on Oct. 6, 2025, according to CoinGecko data.
The debate over the asset’s trajectory remains polarized among institutional leaders. While BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has suggested Bitcoin could reach $700,000 if institutional adoption continues to accelerate, critics like Peter Schiff maintain the asset lacks intrinsic value. Meanwhile, blockchain analytics continue to evolve, with transaction history for the disputed wallet showing multiple interactions with Coinbase Prime over the last year, including a 1,000 Bitcoin transfer on July 9, 2025.
