Mojang Studios to Launch Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 in October
The best-selling title will feature default graphical upgrades and cross-generation support starting October 27.
Mojang Studios will launch Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, introducing upgraded visual capabilities and a dedicated upgrade path for existing system owners to the best-selling video game of all time.
The upcoming release will feature the studio’s “Vibrant Visuals” graphics enhancement mode enabled by default, bringing directional lighting, volumetric fog, and improved shadow effects to the platform. Mojang confirmed the visual upgrade will also apply to the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack, though high-fidelity graphics will be unavailable during split-screen cooperative play, select alternative game modes, and specific Marketplace Worlds.
The Microsoft Corp.-owned developer stated that players who own the original Nintendo Switch edition will have access to an upgrade path, with specific transition details to be announced prior to launch.
The main-line title’s debut comes shortly after the franchise launches its next spin-off, Minecraft Dungeons II, which is scheduled to hit PC, original Switch, Switch 2, and other consoles on September 29. Mojang has not confirmed whether the Switch 2 edition of Minecraft will support Joy-Con 2 mouse controls for precision building.
