Chelsea Prepare Imminent £85 Million Bid for RB Leipzig Starlet Yan Diomande
The Blues look to beat European rivals to the Ivorian winger, though a proposed loan-back clause raises questions over immediate squad integration.

LONDON — Chelsea is preparing an opening bid of £85 million for RB Leipzig’s highly rated winger Yan Diomande, as manager Xabi Alonso looks to reshape his attacking options ahead of the new season.
According to a report by The Chelsea Chronicle, the West London club is ready to test Leipzig’s resolve with an imminent offer for the 19-year-old Ivorian international, who is valued by the German club at £102 million. Under the proposed terms, Chelsea is reportedly willing to let the teenager remain with the Bundesliga outfit on loan for another season to continue his development.
The move comes as Alonso seeks to stamp his authority on a squad that struggled to find consistency in wide areas last year. Chelsea invested heavily in several wingers last summer, but none of those acquisitions managed to establish themselves last season. Consequently, Alejandro Garnacho, who was regarded as one of the club’s key signings, is already believed to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge.
Alonso has prioritized the addition of a dynamic, out-wide forward capable of delivering consistent end product in the final third. Diomande fits this profile perfectly. The young attacker enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, registering 13 goals and 10 assists while playing consistent minutes for Leipzig.
Known for his tactical flexibility, Diomande is comfortable operating on both flanks. He excels in one-on-one situations, possesses the vision to create quality chances, and regularly finds dangerous areas in the box to finish opportunities. Beyond his offensive output, his high work rate—characterized by diligent pressing and tracking back to assist defensively—makes him an ideal fit for modern, high-intensity systems. He also showcased his immense potential and confidence at the World Cup this summer.
While Chelsea’s plan to loan Diomande back to Germany is designed to aid his long-term progression, the strategy carries inherent risks. Some analysts suggest that if the Blues are prepared to eventually pay close to the £100 million mark, the most practical option would be to integrate him immediately. A loan-back agreement leaves Chelsea vulnerable to a potential drop in the player’s form or a lengthy injury lay-off before he even arrives in London.
Chelsea is not alone in monitoring the young winger. European giants Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the player. However, Liverpool is currently prioritizing a swoop for Bradley Barcola, while PSG has yet to expedite talks with the player’s representatives. This has left the door open for Chelsea to steal a march on their rivals as they look to secure one of Europe’s brightest prospects.
