Undefeated Mosley Football Ranked 40th in Florida State
Bay County teams navigate fluctuating MaxPreps rankings

Panama City — Mosley football enters the final stretch of the season with a perfect 6-0 record, yet the team sits outside the top 25 in the Florida high school football rankings. The Dolphins are listed 40th in the state, a placement that has sparked debate among fans and analysts as the regular season winds down.
The rankings come from the Florida High School Athletic Association, which releases data twice a week through MaxPreps. The platform’s algorithm evaluates factors such as strength of schedule and data submitted to the site. The score reflects the quality of opponents faced rather than wins alone.
The weighting of those factors creates friction for Bay County teams. Bay High, also in the Panama City area, holds a 6-1 record but ranks 128th in the state. Teams winning consistently have dropped, leading some to question how victories are valued against schedule difficulty.
Local programs span several classification tiers, and the spread across the county is wide. Mosley stands seventh in Class 4A despite the lower state placement. Bay High is 17th in Class 3A. Rutherford is 30th in Class 2A. Arnold is 66th in Class 4A. Bozeman sits 383rd overall. North Bay Haven ranks 475th.

Higher placements typically carry weight in district tournament seeding and state playoff access. Coaches and administrators monitor the bi-weekly updates closely to gauge postseason positioning.
The latest confirmed results in the data reflect games through Oct. 1, including Bozeman’s 47-14 victory over Rocky Bayou Christian at Bozeman Stadium.
