Supply bottlenecks push Costco’s Kirkland Signature motor oil to $58
Costco Wholesale Corp., the largest membership-only warehouse club chain in the United States, has sharply raised prices on motor oil across its warehouses and e-commerce platform. The company has also implemented strict purchasing limits as major retailers take drastic conservation and pricing measures.
At the center of the pricing surge is Costco’s private-label Kirkland Signature full synthetic motor oil. A 10-quart case of the store-brand lubricant, which historically retailed between $30 and $35 for much of the past several years, has jumped to $58 on the company’s website.
Escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and critical shipping bottlenecks are rippling through the global energy supply chain, hitting American motorists not only at the fuel pump but also in the automotive maintenance aisle.
