Fitbit Edge Launches at $179.99 With Gemini-Powered Health Tools
Priced between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch, the Edge requires a Health Premium subscription for coaching features

Google is expanding its wearable lineup with the new Fitbit Edge, a device priced at $179.99 that the company says slots between the Fitbit Air and the Pixel Watch. The move extends Google’s hardware reach into a more accessible tier, targeting consumers who want connected features without the cost of a flagship smartwatch.
The Edge leans heavily on Google’s broader health ecosystem rather than hardware specs alone. It works with Google Health Coach, a Gemini-powered tool that generates weekly routines and workout plans using fitness, health, and medical information. Access requires an active Google Health Premium subscription, and the system recalibrates plans based on the user’s daily schedule. Google Health Guardian is also supported, a feature announced during the Pixel Watch 5 launch in August that monitors measurements over time to flag notable changes, including signals tied to blood pressure and insulin resistance.
On the tracking side, the company says the Edge can automatically recognize and log up to 100 activities, such as runs, bike rides, and walks. It uses movement context to update weekly goals and offers over 50 exercise modes, with on-screen prompts during workouts that cue users to rest or intensify effort. Google claims the built-in GPS is 40% more accurate than the previous generation, a specification aimed at improving outdoor run tracking, while sleep-stage detection is reportedly 15% more accurate than prior models.
Hardware features include an OLED display paired with Fitbit’s slimmer band form factor, offering on-screen access to map directions, notifications, weather, and music control. Power management allows up to seven days between charges, and the unit is water-resistant to 50 meters, offering endurance that compares favorably against many rival devices requiring daily charging cycles.
Consumers can choose from Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon finishes, with a Stephen Curry Special Edition carrying a premium price of $219.99. Preorders open now through the Google Store, with general store availability set for October 27.
