Ukraine Integrates Bunker-Buster Munitions into Drone Fleet

The Ukrainian military integrated bunker-buster munitions into its drone fleet to target soldiers in fortified positions, according to Defense Blog.

Images from open-source intelligence platform Exilenova+ show a rectangular metal device with a pointed front tip. The design is intended to penetrate the overhead cover of field fortifications rather than exploding on impact.

Standard drone munitions, such as modified 40mm grenades and repurposed anti-tank mines, are designed for fragmentation or surface pressure. These munitions are effective against personnel in open trenches but can be survived by soldiers in shelters covered by wood, soil, or metal. The new wedge-headed munition is designed to penetrate these materials before detonating inside.

Technical specifications, including weight, explosive volume, and penetration depth, have not been publicly confirmed. No official statement from the Ukrainian military or a manufacturer has been released regarding the operational status of the device.

Russian military Telegram channels recently reported the use of munitions that penetrate shelter roofs during night operations. These reports described weapons that penetrate surfaces instead of exploding externally.

Russian forces have constructed fortification systems using earth, reinforced wood, and concrete across lines in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine previously utilized larger bunker-buster warheads against buildings and vehicles. The munitions shown in recent images are sized for use by infantry units with small, drop-capable drones.
