The race to secure one of French football’s brightest prospects has intensified, with Premier League giants Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City all establishing contact over a potential move for LOSC Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi.

According to a report from The Athletic, Manchester United have been actively laying the groundwork for a transfer, holding discussions with the player’s representatives over the past 12 months. However, any deal for the highly-rated youngster will require navigating intense domestic competition and a substantial financial hurdle.

Lille, renowned for developing and selling elite talents at a premium, are reportedly open to cashing in on Bouaddi this summer if they receive a lucrative proposal. However, the French club’s valuation of the midfielder is believed to be around £85 million. Such a steep price tag could prompt both Arsenal and Manchester United to cool their interest, forcing them to weigh the long-term potential of the player against immediate budgetary constraints.

Midfield Rebuilds and Tactical Needs

For Manchester United, the pursuit of Bouaddi is part of a broader, aggressive overhaul of their engine room. Under the stewardship of manager Michael Carrick, who guided the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, the club is determined to close the competitive gap with Arsenal.

United’s transfer strategy this summer has prioritized midfield reinforcements following the departure of veteran midfielder Casemiro and a serious knee issue suffered by Manuel Ugarte. While the club has already secured the signings of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently indicated that United plan to recruit a third midfielder before the window closes, specifically targeting defensive-minded profiles.

Bouaddi fits this description perfectly. Primarily a right-footed defensive midfielder, he has also demonstrated the tactical versatility to operate effectively in a box-to-box role. His high ceiling and technical composure have made him one of the most sought-after young profiles in European football.

Competing Premier League Interest

Arsenal’s interest in Bouaddi comes as manager Mikel Arteta looks to stabilize his own midfield options. The Gunners are reportedly planning further additions in the center of the pitch following a difficult debut campaign for Christian Norgaard and a series of inconsistent performances from Martin Zubimendi last term. While the North London club remains heavily linked with a high-profile move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimarães, Bouaddi has emerged as a serious alternative.

Meanwhile, Manchester City present a different proposition. While some interested clubs are reportedly open to a “buy-and-loan” agreement—purchasing Bouaddi this summer and allowing him to remain at Lille on loan for another season—City are keen to integrate him into their first-team squad immediately. Having already spent a huge fee to acquire Elliot Anderson, the reigning Premier League champions remain determined to add further depth to their midfield unit.

As the transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether the North London club or the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
