Leaked specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro Max indicate a significant divergence in battery volume based on the presence of a physical SIM tray.

The high-end model destined for the United States, which relies exclusively on eSIM technology, is reportedly equipped with a 5,425 mAh cell. This represents a 6.62% increase, or an additional 337 mAh, over its predecessor. Conversely, the international variant—standard in Europe and Latin America—is expected to feature a 5,235 mAh battery. While this version sees a larger year-over-year jump of 8.54% (412 mAh), it remains physically smaller than the American counterpart.

This discrepancy highlights the internal engineering advantages of removing legacy components. According to the GSMA, the global transition toward eSIM allows manufacturers to reclaim critical internal real estate, which Apple is clearly utilizing to expand battery footprints. By eliminating the physical SIM slot, engineers can maximize the volume of the lithium-ion stack within the same chassis dimensions.

The move positions Apple to potentially outpace the anticipated Galaxy S26 Ultra in raw endurance, a metric where Samsung has historically maintained a competitive edge. However, the total battery life of the iPhone 18 Pro Max will likely depend more on the efficiency of the A20 chip than on the raw milliampere-hour count. This next-generation processor is expected to utilize a 2-nanometer fabrication process, which typically offers a more modest energy draw compared to previous architectures.

Questions regarding the reliability of these figures have been bolstered by the sudden removal of the original source on the social media platform X. Industry analysts suggest this pattern of deletion often coincides with legal interventions from Apple, particularly following recent security breaches involving manufacturing partner Tata. The precision of the data—down to single-digit mAh increments—suggests the information originated from internal supply chain documentation rather than speculative modeling.
