HP HyperX Unveils First Open-Back Cloud Alpha Air Headset and 47-Gram Carbon Fiber Mouse

HP expands its gaming peripheral hardware with open-back audio engineering and an ultralight carbon fiber mouse slated for September release.

HP Inc.’s gaming division HyperX announced its fall peripheral lineup scheduled for a September release, headlined by the Cloud Alpha Air, the brand’s first open-back gaming headset priced at $150, alongside the $130 Pulsefire Haste 3 Pro wireless mouse.

The introduction of an open-back architecture marks a design shift for HyperX, which HP acquired from Kingston Technology in 2021 for $425 million. Traditional open-back headphones allow air and sound to pass through ventilated earcups to create a wider, more natural acoustic soundstage. However, this design frequently leads to a reduction in low-frequency bass response compared to closed-back alternatives.

To counteract bass dissipation, HyperX built an internal Bass Tube system into the Cloud Alpha Air. The structure is designed to preserve low-end rumble and maintain audio clarity for in-game cues such as footsteps and heavy explosions without muddying midrange or high frequencies.

The headset features red 40mm dynamic drivers visible beneath metallic outer grilles. With a low impedance rating of 34 ohms, the unit can be driven directly by standard onboard audio controllers, though higher-end source audio can be processed using an included USB adapter. Physical controls on the chassis are limited to a volume wheel and a mute toggle for the detachable microphone, while the earcups use ultrasuede-wrapped foam mounted on a flexible metal headband.

HyperX ships the Cloud Alpha Air with a full cable accessory package, including a primary 3.5mm audio cable, a PC extension cable with dedicated audio and microphone jacks, and a USB adapter equipped with both USB-A and USB-C connectors. Sound profiles and equalizer settings can be customized through HyperX’s NGENUITY companion software. The headset launches as a wired-only device.

Alongside the headset, HyperX introduced the Pulsefire Haste 3 Pro, marking its lightest wireless gaming mouse to date at 47 grams. The weight reduction is achieved through an outer shell engineered from carbon fiber. Internal hardware includes a new Performance Sensor capable of tracking up to 42,000 DPI, with battery life rated for up to 150 hours when operating in wireless mode at a standard 1,000 Hz polling rate.

A $90 Pro mouse model retains the 42,000 DPI Performance Sensor in a slightly heavier plastic housing. For broader market coverage, HyperX is offering additional variants in the mouse family, including an entry-level wired edition priced at $40. The manufacturer is also rolling out updated color options across its existing headset catalog, including the HyperX Cloud III S, HyperX Cloud III Wired, and HyperX Cloud Flight 2.

In addition to standalone peripherals, HP is expanding its prebuilt system options with updated AMD-based configurations for the Omen 35L desktop tower, with all new hardware slated to hit store shelves in September.
