Hisense Debuts Dolby Vision 2 on 2026 TV Lineup as Streaming Partners Sign On

Dolby Laboratories Inc. has officially launched Dolby Vision 2, debuting its next-generation high dynamic range image engine on 2026 television models from Hisense Visual Technology Co.

The upgraded display technology introduces Content Intelligence, a system combining artificial intelligence and embedded metadata to adjust picture performance on a scene-by-scene basis. The software automatically recalculates luminance and contrast during dark cinematic sequences, while adjusting white points and motion parameters for live sports and gaming content.

Initial commercial hardware support is limited to Hisense’s 2026 display portfolio, led by the flagship UX, UR9, UR8, and U7 series. The Chinese electronics maker plans to deliver the feature to additional existing models through over-the-air firmware updates.

The release marks the first major architectural revision to the Dolby Vision standard since its original 2014 introduction. Dolby continues to compete with open-source formats like HDR10+, backed by Samsung Electronics Co., in the premium television and video streaming markets.

Advanced capabilities within the update are grouped under a Dolby Vision 2 Max tier, including Light Sense 2, which recalibrates screen brightness against real-time ambient room light, and Authentic Motion, a motion-handling feature designed to eliminate judder without introducing artificial smoothing. While Hisense’s launch hardware supports the full Max feature set, Dolby indicated that future licensee implementations may vary by hardware tier.

Streaming platforms Peacock, French media group Canal+, and Chinese video provider iQIYI have committed to supporting the updated mastering format across their respective content catalogs. Dolby has not disclosed timelines for adoption by other display manufacturers.
