Apple Issues Emergency macOS Patch to Fix Screen Sharing Vulnerability
Unauthenticated remote access flaw addressed across Tahoe, Sequoia, and Sonoma platforms.
Apple Inc. has issued urgent security updates across three active versions of macOS to patch a network vulnerability that allowed unauthorized attackers to bypass authentication in Screen Sharing.
The out-of-band updates—released as macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.9, and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9—were pushed directly to users without undergoing Apple’s customary developer or public beta testing protocols, underscoring the severity of the underlying flaw.
According to official support documentation, the vulnerability enabled an attacker located on the same local network to authenticate to Screen Sharing services without supplying valid user credentials. The newly released updates resolve the issue by closing the authentication loophole.
The immediate security fix follows a round of 26.6 operating system updates delivered in late July. Apple has maintained an unusually intense software deployment schedule, having launched public betas for its upcoming iOS 27 and macOS 27 platforms in mid-July.
The emergency deployment also comes two days after Apple restructured its bug bounty program to counter an overwhelming volume of automated vulnerability submissions generated by artificial intelligence tools.
