Manchester United Target Fulham’s Antonee Robinson as Newcastle Block Lewis Hall Transfer

Manchester United have targeted Fulham defender Antonee Robinson as an alternative left-back option after encountering resistance from Newcastle United over primary choice Lewis Hall, according to talkSPORT.

Newcastle have closed the door on a potential transfer for Hall following a sequence of high-profile departures from St James’ Park. Having already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and with midfielder Bruno Guimaraes nearing a move to Arsenal, the Tyneside club is unwilling to sanction further key exits.

The resistance has forced Manchester United to pivot toward Robinson, who is viewed as a more cost-effective target. The 28-year-old United States international is valued at around £19 million and has entered the final two years of his contract at Craven Cottage, presenting Fulham with a potential window to maximize his transfer value.

Robinson established himself as one of the Premier League‘s most productive full-backs during the 2024/25 campaign, recording 10 assists and five clean sheets in 36 league outings despite dealing with fitness setbacks.

United’s push for a left-back stems from ongoing squad depth issues ahead of their return to the UEFA Champions League. First-choice left-back Luke Shaw has continued to suffer from recurring fitness problems, while Patrick Dorgu, who was signed to provide defensive cover, has primarily been deployed on the wing.

Reinforcing the backline represents the next phase of Old Trafford’s summer spending, which has already seen approximately £83 million spent on midfield duo Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea. Those additions were executed to overhaul the central midfield following Casemiro’s departure and a serious knee injury suffered by Manuel Ugarte.
