Framework Unveils Laptop 13 Pro Featuring Modular LPCAMM2 Memory and Intel Panther Lake
The modular laptop preserves compatibility with 2021 models while adopting LPCAMM2 memory and Intel Panther Lake chips.
Hardware manufacturer Framework has introduced the Laptop 13 Pro, combining next-generation computing architecture with modular components while maintaining backwards compatibility with system chassis dating back to 2021. The updated design allows users of the original 13-inch machine to drop 2026 mainboards directly into older enclosures, sustaining the company’s commitment to hardware longevity.
The Intel variant of the 13 Pro integrates Intel Panther Lake processors alongside LPCAMM2 memory modules. Standardized by the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association as a removable alternative to soldered LPDDR5x RAM, LPCAMM2 maintains high memory bandwidth and low power consumption without sacrificing upgradeability. While the early adoption of LPCAMM2 has driven up the initial cost of the device, it enables long-term system updates without replacing the entire mainboard.
Framework is also offering an alternative mainboard configuration powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300 processors, which rely on standard DDR5 RAM slots.
To support a larger 74Wh battery, Framework modified the bottom cover of the chassis with a shallower front rake. Converting older 13-inch chassis models to accommodate the expanded battery capacity requires installing this new lower enclosure along with a matching type cover. The modified chassis profile slightly increases physical thickness while updating the overall aesthetic finish.
The revised bottom cover introduces the latching mechanism previously used on the Framework Laptop 16, replacing the previous push-button release for expansion cards. The four card slots on the Intel build support full Thunderbolt 4 bandwidth across all ports alongside a 3.5mm audio jack, eliminating port-specific configuration constraints.
Input hardware updates include a revised type cover featuring a 1.5mm travel chiclet keyboard paired with Framework’s first haptic touchpad. The touch sensor has been calibrated to deliver tactile response comparable to premium ultraportables across both Windows and Linux environments.
Display options now include a 13.5-inch touchscreen running at 2,880 by 1,920 resolution. Designed as a direct modular upgrade, the high-resolution touchscreen fits into all existing 13-inch chassis revisions with the exception of the Chromebook variant.
Certain cross-generational component upgrades remain subject to hardware compatibility limits, such as requiring a Wi-Fi module swap when converting between AMD and Intel mainboard architectures.
