TechCrunch and Stripe Partner to Host Startup Battlefield Pitch Competition in Sydney

Eight early-stage Australian tech startups will take the stage in Sydney on August 19 as TechCrunch brings its flagship pitch competition, Startup Battlefield, back to Australia. Held in partnership with global financial infrastructure platform Stripe during the upcoming Stripe Tour Sydney conference, the event will offer emerging founders direct exposure to international venture investors, media coverage, and commercial growth incentives.

The competition carries significant operational and strategic rewards for high-growth startups. The grand prize winner will secure $15,000 in Stripe processing fee credits along with guaranteed entry into the prestigious Startup Battlefield 200 showcase at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, scheduled to take place in San Francisco from October 13 to 15. Secondary prizes include $5,000 in fee credits for the second-place finisher and $2,000 for third place. Fee credits serve as a direct operational buffer for young technology firms, allowing them to scale online revenue and process payments without immediate overhead costs.

Judging the live event is a three-member panel chosen to evaluate startup market readiness, unit economics, and founder execution.

Jasmine Liew, Head of Startup & Investor Partnerships for APAC at Stripe, brings operational insight into payment systems, monetization strategies, and enterprise scalability across Asia-Pacific markets.

Brendan Hill

Representing venture capital interests is Brendan Hill, venture partner at syndicate venture firm Ten13 and an active angel investor. Hill brings an investor-side perspective on capital deployment, cap table management, and early-stage valuation dynamics.

Jarron Aizen

Rounding out the panel is Jarron Aizen, founder and CEO of fitness management platform Hapana, providing founder-operator perspective on building, pivoting, and scaling enterprise software within domestic and international markets.

The Sydney showcase fits into a broader history of pitch events that have acted as springboards for major technology brands. Globally, Startup Battlefield has featured more than 1,700 early-stage tech companies, including unicorn brands such as Dropbox, Cloudflare, Discord, and Trello. To date, competition alumni have collectively raised over $32 billion in venture capital and achieved more than 250 mergers, acquisitions, and public listings.

Local Australian startups have previously leveraged the event to build international scale. During Startup Battlefield’s prior Sydney installment, digital health startup HealthMatch secured first place. The clinical trial recruitment platform has since scaled to over one million patients globally and reached a market valuation exceeding $25 million. Australia’s broader tech sector, historically anchored by venture successes like Atlassian and Canva, increasingly relies on regional pitch showcases to bridge the gap between domestic seed rounds and global institutional capital.

The live competition will be hosted and MC’d by Isabelle Johannessen, director of Startup Battlefield, before an audience of founders, technology operators, venture capitalists, and media representatives at Stripe Tour Sydney on August 19.
