Chelsea Track Feyenoord Midfielder Gjivai Zechiel After Enzo Fernandez Departure
The 22-year-old has five goals and four assists in seven league appearances, with several Premier League clubs also monitoring him.

Chelsea are monitoring Feyenoord midfielder Gjivai Zechiel as they plan for the 2027 season cycle following the deadline-day departure of Argentina international Enzo Fernandez. The club’s interest remains at the scouting and data-analysis stage; no formal offer or transfer bid is expected in the immediate future.
Zechiel, a 22-year-old Dutch youth international, has made a strong start to the current campaign under Feyenoord manager Brian Priske, with five goals and four assists in his first seven league appearances. He scored 10 goals and made 10 assists in all competitions during a productive loan spell with FC Utrecht last season.
Able to play as a deep-lying playmaker or in more advanced central roles, Zechiel has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs. Scouts for Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool also have active files on the midfielder. His performances have earned him recognition within the Dutch national team program.
Chelsea’s recruitment department, led by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, did not secure a direct replacement for Fernandez before the summer transfer window closed. The club is now directing resources towards versatile, high-upside midfielders, in line with the BlueCo ownership group’s preference for acquiring players under 23 before their market values rise sharply.
The pursuit follows other transfer frustrations. Chelsea explored a late move for Senegal international Lamine Camara before he joined Monaco, while earlier inquiries for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott did not progress. Adam Wharton, the Crystal Palace midfielder and England international, remains highly regarded by Chelsea’s hierarchy, but his projected price and Palace’s reluctance to sell have led the club to broaden its search across continental Europe.
Chelsea representatives are regularly assessing Zechiel in domestic and European competitions as they evaluate the club’s long-term tactical blueprint. Feyenoord is expected to resist prospective bids: the Rotterdam club is also seeking to retain highly rated defender Givairo Read and has historically secured premium fees from Premier League suitors for its academy graduates. Zechiel remains under contract with Feyenoord, which is in a strong negotiating position as his development continues.
