BTC Price Falls as Brent Crude Spikes Past $107 Ahead of US CPI
Traders watch $82,000 support as bitcoin options market shows mixed defensive signals

Bitcoin pulled back from early-week gains as fresh geopolitical flashpoints drove crude oil sharply higher, weighing on the cryptocurrency market ahead of a pivotal US inflation data week.
The Bitcoin price traded as low as 2.2% below its earlier peak of $84,254 on Bitstamp, erasing part of last week’s rally as traders reassessed exposure. The move underscores how tightly digital asset markets remain tethered to energy prices and Middle East shipping routes — developments that often reverberate through crypto portfolios.

Crude oil markets surged after Iran reported an oil tanker ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints. Brent crude oil climbed to $107.25, its highest since Sept. 16, while West Texas Intermediate pushed past $94 per barrel. oil prices are a direct input into inflation calculations, so the spike immediately raised concerns about Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index and Thursday’s Producer Price Index releases.
Separately, Ukraine’s president accused Russia of resuming attacks on energy infrastructure, contradicting a moratorium US president Donald Trump had announced. The competing narratives deepened uncertainty over whether an “energy ceasefire” was actually taking hold.

Still, some strategists see the energy rally as overdone. Robin Brooks, former chief FX strategist at Goldman Sachs, argued oil markets had priced in “too much risk premium.” He noted Persian Gulf transit volumes at around 13 million barrels per day versus a 16.5 mb/d peak weeks earlier — elevated, but far better than the disruption seen in March and April.
Bitcoin’s own market structure shows a mix of caution and anticipation. QCP Capital observed that implied volatility has held firm even as spot prices settled back into a range, with risk reversals displaying a less pronounced put premium than typical for nervous markets. That combination suggests Bitcoin options positioning is defensive in tone but not fully hedged against a breakout.
On the charts, analyst Rekt Capital flagged $83,400 as immediate local resistance. That zone echoes the $77,000 area that held through mid-August until Bitcoin broke higher past Sept. 21, a level that could again test buyers.

Ask liquidity clusters near $84,500, with roughly $180 million stacked at that level, while bids are building around $82,000 — the next line of bitcoin support if selling pressure persists.

Traders will now focus on whether the BTC price can reclaim higher ground as oil holds above $100 and ahead of the US CPI data print on Wednesday.
