Anthropic IPO Could Eclipse SpaceX as Largest Ever, Early Investor Predicts $2.4T Debut
Investor sees $2.4T debut fueled by enterprise dominance and 10x revenue growth

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence startup behind the Claude family of models, is on track to stage the largest initial public offering in history, according to a longtime backer who spoke on condition of anonymity. The investor projects shares will price at a $1.8 trillion valuation but surge to a $2.3–2.4 trillion market capitalization once trading begins — surpassing SpaceX’s $2.1 trillion opening-day close in 2024 and its current $2.03 trillion level.
The forecast hinges on Anthropic’s dominant position in the enterprise foundation-model market, where it derives roughly 80% of revenue from business customers — a far higher share than rival OpenAI, which generates about half its sales from enterprise contracts. That focus has made Anthropic the preferred infrastructure partner for corporations building AI agents, coding assistants, and automated workflows on top of general-purpose models trained on massive datasets.
“They’re perceived as the premier foundation-model builder,” the investor said. “That’s not a flash in the pan.” Foundation models — large-scale systems capable of language, vision, reasoning, and tool use — have become the core platform layer for the generative AI economy, analogous to operating systems in the PC era.
Anthropic’s revenue trajectory supports the bull case. The company crossed $1 billion in annualized revenue in late 2024, growing more than 10x year-over-year, according to people familiar with the figures. That pace outstrips the early growth of Meta, Google, and Amazon, reinforcing the investor’s claim that Anthropic is “the fastest-growing company in history.”
Strategic backing from Amazon and Google — which have collectively committed over $6 billion — provides both capital and distribution through AWS Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI. Those partnerships embed Anthropic models inside the cloud infrastructure where enterprises already run workloads, creating a distribution moat that consumer-focused rivals lack.
The investor also cited leadership culture as a differentiator. CEO Dario Amodei, a former OpenAI research vice president, has emphasized constitutional AI — a training methodology that bakes safety constraints into model behavior — and has resisted pressure to rush consumer products. “Anthropic had a little more soul,” the backer said. “Dario is pretty principled about the kind of company he wants.”
Contrast with SpaceX is instructive. Elon Musk’s rocket and satellite venture took two decades to reach its current valuation, reliant on Starlink subscriber growth and Starship development milestones that remain years from full commercialization. Anthropic’s path to profitability is compressed: inference costs are falling 10x annually as model quantization, speculative decoding, and custom silicon (including Amazon’s Trainium and Google’s TPUs) reduce the compute required per token.
Open-source models from Meta’s Llama family and Alibaba’s Qwen are pressuring API pricing, but the investor argues usage expansion will outpace margin compression. “Usage will continue to explode,” he said. “Anthropic can afford to slow down and still have huge value.”
No S-1 has been filed, and timing remains uncertain. But with $9.7 billion raised to date, a $18.4 billion private valuation from its last round, and enterprise contracts expanding across finance, legal, and software development, the groundwork for a record-breaking debut is largely in place.
