Amazon’s Automated Termination System Faces Landmark Pregnant Workers Fairness Act Legal Test

Automated Systems vs. Pregnancy Rights in Amazon Warehouses

A federal class-action lawsuit filed on Tuesday alleges that Amazon’s highly automated workforce management systems discriminate against pregnant warehouse employees, raising new questions about how the retail giant’s productivity tracking and termination algorithms interact with federal labor protections. The case, brought by four former hourly warehouse workers, targets Amazon’s rigid attendance policies and minute-by-minute productivity monitoring as violations of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) and New York state labor laws. The plaintiffs seek to represent a nationwide class of potentially thousands of pregnant employees who were allegedly denied accommodations, retaliated against, or terminated.
