ALCS Game 4: Rays vs. Guardians Time, TV and Series Status

Cleveland holds a 2-1 series lead heading into Friday night's pivotal matchup at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay’s regular-season dominance meets Cleveland’s postseason resilience Friday night as the American League Championship Series shifts back to Florida with the Guardians holding a 2-1 lead.

Game 4 first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field. National television coverage airs on TBS, with streaming available through DIRECTV. SiriusXM carries the radio broadcasts on channel 205 for the Cleveland feed and channel 206 for Tampa Bay.

The Rays swept the New York Yankees in the Division Series, validating an AL-best regular season that positioned them as heavy favorites entering October. Tampa Bay has now reached the ALCS three times in franchise history. The club defeated the Boston Red Sox in its first appearance in 2008 before falling to the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, then returned to the Fall Classic during the shortened 2020 campaign against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cleveland arrived in this round carrying significant momentum from a grueling Division Series against the Chicago White Sox. Third baseman Jose Ramirez anchored a run of three consecutive elimination-game victories to advance, continuing a pattern of high-leverage production that has defined his tenure with the franchise. The Guardians are making their second ALCS appearance in three years after dropping the 2024 series to the Yankees.

Home-field advantage alternates under MLB’s current 2-3-2 playoff format, meaning Games 4 and 5 remain in St. Petersburg before a potential shift back to Progressive Field in Cleveland for Games 6 and 7. Tropicana Field’s artificial turf and controlled indoor environment historically favor Tampa Bay’s defensive positioning and speed-oriented roster construction, factors that could influence managerial decisions regarding outfield alignments and baserunning aggression in the coming games.

A Cleveland victory would end a championship drought stretching back to 1948, when the team won the World Series as the Indians. The franchise last appeared in the Fall Classic in 2016, surrendering a 3-1 series lead to the Chicago Cubs in one of baseball’s most memorable collapses. The Rays have never won a World Series title.

Should the series extend beyond Friday, Game 5 follows at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 17, also at Tropicana Field. A potential Game 6 is set for Monday, Oct. 19, in Cleveland, with a decisive Game 7 scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20. All remaining matchups will maintain the 8 p.m. ET start time on TBS.

The winner advances to face the National League champion beginning Friday, Oct. 23, when the World Series opens.
