David Deno Named Cracker Barrel CEO as Julie Masino Steps Down
David Deno will take over leadership on August 10 as Julie Masino prepares to transition out of the role.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has appointed industry veteran David Deno as its new chief executive officer, initiating a leadership transition as Julie Masino prepares to step down from the role.
Deno is scheduled to take over as CEO on August 10. Masino will remain with the organization in an advisory capacity through October 9 to support the executive handoff.
The leadership change follows what the company described as a comprehensive search process led by the board of directors. Carl Berquist, independent chairman of the Cracker Barrel board, cited Deno’s experience across retail and restaurant operations, pointing to his history of driving operational improvements, guest engagement, and financial growth.
Deno brings decades of corporate dining experience to the position. He previously served as chief executive officer of Bloomin’ Brands—the parent organization of Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill—before announcing his departure from that role. His background also includes executive positions with Yum! Brands and retail leadership at Best Buy.
Masino’s departure comes during a broader strategic overhaul at the chain. After taking charge in late 2023, she led initiatives aimed at updating store design, refining menu offerings, and modernizing customer access through digital sales channels.
casual dining operators across the United States continue to adjust to shifting consumer spending patterns, labor costs, and operational trends, as reflected in public reporting filings submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Berquist indicated that Deno will focus on sustaining operational momentum and driving strategic growth for shareholders as he assumes leadership of the company.
