Tottenham Hotspur Join Five-Club Premier League Race for Bournemouth Midfielder Alex Scott
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, joining an intense multi-club race that includes Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Chelsea have already taken active steps to secure the midfielder, seeing an opening proposal worth £64 million turned down by Bournemouth. Despite that rejection, Stamford Bridge remains Scott’s preferred destination, leading him to reject Bournemouth’s recent offer of a new contract. The Cherries, whose current deal with the player extends until 2028, remain eager to retain him after a sixth-place finish earned the club Europa League qualification for the upcoming campaign.
Scott initially moved to the Vitality Stadium from Bristol City, where his rapid rise saw him earn the EFL Young Player of the Season award. Under Premier League registration rules, home-grown players under 23 carry significant strategic value for top-tier squads, which often drives up transfer valuations during domestic negotiations.
For Tottenham Hotspur, interest in Scott follows a sweeping squad overhaul directed by manager Roberto De Zerbi. After consecutive 17th-place Premier League finishes, the North London club has spent heavily in the transfer window. Tottenham have shored up their backline with the additions of Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke, while also reinforcing their midfield by bringing in Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.
Capable of operating effectively as a box-to-box operator or in a deeper defensive role, Scott adapted to the physical demands of top-flight football last season to become a key figure for Bournemouth. However, with Tottenham absent from European competition in the coming year, additional spending in central midfield may require balancing against other squad priorities, including potential upgrades in attack before the transfer window closes.
