Abdukodir Khusanov signs new five-year Manchester City contract until 2031
Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov has committed his long-term future to the club, signing a contract extension that secures his place at the Etihad Stadium until 2031.
The 22-year-old Uzbekistan international initially joined City in January 2025 and quickly carved out a regular place in the squad’s defensive setup. His new five-year agreement arrives as the club begins a fresh chapter under manager Enzo Maresca.
Khusanov cited the challenge of earning a permanent starting position under the new managerial setup as his immediate priority.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute since I arrived in Manchester and I feel I am growing and learning a lot as a player,” Khusanov said. “I have a new challenge now, which is to impress Enzo Maresca and his staff and ensure I am in his team regularly.”
The agreement follows a milestone summer for the defender, who represented Uzbekistan during their first-ever World Cup finals appearance. The Central Asian nation’s football framework has advanced substantially in recent years, with Khusanov rising as the region’s highest-profile export in elite European football.
Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana praised the defender’s physical and technical foundation, describing Khusanov as possessing “all the assets needed to be a world-class centre-back.”
“At just 22, his best years are all in front of him and his potential to get even better is clear for all to see,” Viana added, pointing to the defender’s role in the club’s long-term tactical structure.
The contract extension gives City clarity in central defence ahead of their official season start. The squad opens its competitive schedule on August 16 against Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium before beginning their Premier League season at home against a Bournemouth team transitioning under new manager Marco Rose.
