Arsenal has prioritized the signing of Aston Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers as manager Mikel Arteta seeks to evolve his attacking options following the club’s recent Premier League title success. The move signals a shift toward high-efficiency recruitment, with Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White identified as a secondary alternative should a deal for Rogers fail to materialize.

According to reports from The Sun, the North London club is closely monitoring Rogers’ situation at Villa Park. The 23-year-old has emerged as a key component of Unai Emery’s Europa League-winning side, contributing 26 goal involvements in the most recent campaign.

Arsenal’s interest is reportedly driven by a tactical requirement for greater clinical finishing and long-range threat from the left flank. Internal data highlights a performance gap between Rogers and Arsenal’s current left-sided options, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli. While Rogers missed only four “big chances” in the English top flight last season, Trossard and Martinelli combined for 15 missed opportunities.

However, Arsenal faces significant external pressure in the market. Paris Saint-Germain is also reportedly tracking Rogers, potentially setting up a bidding war between the English champions and the French giants.

As a contingency, Arsenal is keeping tabs on Morgan Gibbs-White. The Forest midfielder recorded 25 goal involvements last season, a figure nearly identical to Rogers. Despite his productivity, Gibbs-White is viewed as a less natural fit for the specific vacancy on the left wing.

Club scouts note that Gibbs-White operates almost exclusively as a central attacking midfielder, a position where Arsenal already possesses significant depth. With Martin Odegaard, Eberechi Eze, and emerging talent Max Dowman all featuring in the “number 10” role last season, the acquisition of another central playmaker is considered a lower priority than a versatile wide forward.

While Gibbs-White remains on the shortlist, the financial outlay required for a player who might struggle to integrate into the wing rotation makes Rogers the preferred candidate for Arteta’s tactical system. Arsenal is expected to formalize its approach for Rogers once the summer transfer window opens, pending the resolution of PSG’s interest.
