Tottenham Target Manchester City Winger Savinho to Solve Left-Flank Crisis

Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho as manager Roberto de Zerbi looks to reshape his squad after a tumultuous Premier League campaign. According to a report from The Athletic, the North London club has identified the Brazilian forward as a primary target to reinforce their attacking options before the summer transfer window closes on September 1.

The move comes at a critical time for Spurs, who are grappling with a depleted left flank. Summer signing Wilson Odobert is facing an extended spell on the sidelines due to a severe knee injury, leaving the inexperienced Mathys Tel as the primary natural option on the left. Savinho, a versatile forward who can operate comfortably on either wing, is seen as an ideal solution to inject pace and technical quality into De Zerbi’s system.

Currently valued at approximately £30 million by Transfermarkt, Savinho found playing time limited under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City last season. Despite his struggles to secure a starting spot in Manchester, Tottenham Hotspur have long admired the player, having failed in multiple attempts to secure his signature during the previous summer transfer window.

This pursuit is part of an extensive squad overhaul under Roberto De Zerbi, who took over during a highly volatile period for the club. Tottenham experienced an extraordinary 2024/25 campaign, winning the UEFA Europa League but simultaneously collapsing domestically to finish 17th in the Premier League. The club went through a rapid succession of managers; Thomas Frank failed to replicate his Brentford success in North London, while his successor Igor Tudor was dismissed without winning a single league match. De Zerbi was ultimately brought in to stave off relegation, securing survival on the final day of the season.

To prevent a repeat of last year’s domestic struggles, Tottenham’s hierarchy has backed De Zerbi heavily in the market. The club has already rebuilt its defensive line with the acquisitions of Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke, while also reinforcing the midfield with Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

In addition to targeting Savinho, Tottenham are reportedly active in the market for a traditional center-forward and an additional right-sided winger to complete their offensive rebuild before the deadline.
