Liverpool and Arsenal Eye PSG Forward Bradley Barcola in Summer Transfer Battle

Liverpool and Arsenal monitor £60m-rated PSG winger as summer window heats up.

LIVERPOOL — Liverpool have joined Arsenal in the pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s highly-rated forward Bradley Barcola, as the Merseyside club looks to overhaul its attacking options following a transformative period at Anfield. According to reports from The Athletic, the Reds are closely monitoring the Frenchman’s situation at the Parc des Princes ahead of a potential summer move.

The interest comes as Liverpool navigates a significant leadership transition. After a disappointing campaign that saw the club finish fifth in the Premier League, the hierarchy moved to appoint Andoni Iraola as the new manager, parting ways with the previous Dutch boss, Arne Slot. This managerial shift follows a massive £450m investment last summer, which saw seven new signings arrive in an unsuccessful bid to defend their previous league title.

Liverpool’s recruitment team is now tasked with addressing a depleted frontline. The departure of the talismanic Mohamed Salah and a serious injury to Hugo Ekitike have left the squad thin in attacking areas. While Bradley Barcola is a primary person of interest, the club is also reportedly keeping tabs on Brighton and Hove Albion star Yankuba Minteh, FC Koln’s Said El Mala, and LOSC Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo to provide depth and competition.

Arsenal’s Tactical Reshuffle

Arsenal are also firmly in the race for the 23-year-old winger, though their priorities appear split. While the Gunners admire Barcola, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers remains their primary target for the summer window. The North London club’s need for a left-sided attacker has become urgent due to the impending move of Leandro Trossard to Turkish giants Besiktas.

The departure of Trossard would leave Gabriel Martinelli as the only natural left-wing option in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Martinelli, however, has entered the final year of his current contract and struggled with inconsistent performances throughout the previous season, prompting the club to seek reinforcements to maintain their competitive edge at the top of the table.

The Situation at PSG

Barcola, a left-winger by trait, has found consistent playing time difficult to come by under Luis Enrique. Despite his obvious talent and contributions at both the club and international levels, he has struggled to break into the starting line-up for high-stakes matches over the last two seasons. This lack of guaranteed minutes has fueled speculation that the forward could be open to a move to the Premier League.

From a financial perspective, Paris Saint-Germain holds a strong negotiating position. Barcola has entered the final two years of his contract, a period where European clubs typically look to either renew terms or sell to maximize value. Currently valued at approximately £60m by Transfermarkt, Les Parisiens are expected to demand a significant fee for a player who is widely considered to have not yet reached his prime.

Whether Liverpool’s new era under Andoni Iraola or Arsenal’s continued evolution under Arteta will provide the right platform for Barcola remains to be seen. Both clubs are weighing a concrete approach as the summer window progresses, seeking to secure a player whose technical profile and age make him a shrewd long-term acquisition for any elite side.
