Comfrt Scales to $1 Billion Top Line on Weighted Loungewear Model

Direct-to-consumer startup relies on creator networks and weighted apparel design to navigate liquidity hurdles and platform volatility.

A $50,000 bootstrapped capital outlay and a network of 500 content creators have positioned loungewear startup Comfrt to hit $1 billion in revenue, breaking out of a direct-to-consumer landscape hit by rising customer acquisition costs.

The New York-based apparel brand relies on a weighted fabric design—applying gentle pressure across hoodies, sweatpants, and accessories—to capitalize on the growing sensory apparel sector. Founder Hudson Leogrande scaled the business to 140 full-time payroll employees after nearly exhausting cash reserves in early 2024, when working capital demands outpaced initial supply chain logistics.

Cash flow shortfalls repeatedly forced the business to the brink of insolvency before executive management intervened.

Leogrande brought in a chief operating officer and chief financial officer to stabilize unit economics, restructuring fulfillment and inventory purchasing. The operational pivot followed an earlier direct-to-consumer venture, PurelyWhite Deluxe, which collapsed after an algorithm update on Snapchat erased organic reach overnight. That platform volatility drove Comfrt to diversify content distribution across creator partnerships rather than relying on single-channel ad spends.

Social-first digital brands have aggressively carved out market share from legacy retailers, mirrored by Kim Kardashian’s Skims reaching a $4 billion valuation following a $270 million funding round in 2023.

Prior to founding Comfrt at age 28, Leogrande generated $60,000 in monthly revenue during a short-term rental arbitrage model in Los Angeles, signing long-term residential leases and subletting properties on short-term platforms. That venture succeeded a brief tenure managing auto dealership sales floors after dropping out of secondary school at 16.

Leogrande’s commercial trajectory also earned him a board seat at health and wellness brand IM8, launched in 2024 by Nasdaq-listed health science firm Prenetics Global Ltd. in partnership with David Beckham.

Comfrt’s catalog expansion now includes weighted pet apparel, blankets, and carrying bags, maintaining its core affiliate model across its 500 primary content creators.
