Amazon MGM Studios and Henry Cavill Partner on Warhammer 40,000 Animated Series Spinoff

Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studio, and Games Workshop are developing an animated television series based on Warhammer 40,000, expanding the science-fiction franchise into a dedicated animated show following its debut in Prime Video‘s computer-generated anthology series Secret Level.

Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level, will serve as co-creator and director for the spin-off project. Actor Henry Cavill, an outspoken fan of the tabletop wargame who is spearheading live-action adaptations for Amazon, has joined the animated series as an executive producer alongside Secret Level creator Tim Miller and Blur Studio.

Games Workshop Chief Executive Officer Kevin Rountree addressed the status of the broader media deal during a recent financial report, confirming Cavill’s ongoing involvement to address fan speculation over potential delays. Rountree noted that creative teams are now actively moving toward writing a script for the separate live-action adaptation, several years after Amazon initially acquired the film and television rights to the property.

The animated project originates directly from Blur Studio, the CGI production company co-founded by Miller that previously produced Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots. Blur Studio produced Secret Level as a video game anthology featuring episodic stories centered on gaming intellectual properties, ranging from long-standing titles like Warhammer 40,000 to Sony’s short-lived hero shooter Concord.

The deal between Amazon and Games Workshop gives the streaming giant exclusive rights to adapt the 37-year-old tabletop gaming universe across film, television, and animation. First released in 1987, Warhammer 40,000 has grown into one of the tabletop industry’s highest-grossing intellectual properties, providing Amazon with a major sci-fi franchise anchor alongside its adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.
