Discount supermarket chain Lidl US has launched a voluntary recall of imported specialty cookies distributed across nine eastern states and Washington, D.C., after discovering that batches were placed on store shelves without required English-language ingredient lists and allergen declarations.
The safety alert applies to 11.6-ounce (330-gram) packages of Eridanous Shortbread Cookies with Chocolate Truffle Coating & Apricot Filling. According to safety notices tracked by the Food and Drug Administration, the back of the affected inventory displayed foreign-language text rather than mandatory U.S. labeling, concealing the presence of four major food allergens: wheat, soy, milk, and eggs.
Individuals with severe allergies or heightened sensitivities to these ingredients face heightened risks of severe or life-threatening allergic reactions if the product is consumed.
